This
is our final invitation for you to register, if you have not already
done so, to attend the upcoming IAPA 62nd General Assembly, to be held
in Mexico City, Mexico, September 29 to October 3, 2006 at the exclusive
Camino Real Hotel.
The
Host Committee has prepared a stunning program (enclosed). These are
just some of the highlights:
•
The presence of Mexico’s President Vicente Fox, who will formally
open the meeting; former Chilean President Ricardo Lagos in a dialogue
with Arturo Valenzuela, former advisor to President Bill Clinton on
Latin American affairs; Víctor García de la Concha, director
of the Spanish Royal Academy; Juan Luis Cebrián, chief executive
of the Prisa Group of Spain; L. Gordon Crovitz, publisher of The Wall
Street Journal, executive vice president of Dow Jones & Company
and president of Consumer Media Group; Bill Richardson, governor of
the state of New Mexico and United States presidential hopeful; Carlos
Slim, president of Mexico’s Carso Group, and former Spanish Prime
Minister Felipe González.
• A seminars program that opens on Friday, October 29 with a discussion
of newspapers and the online revolution (Stop that train, I want to
get on!) – Should we merge the print and online newsrooms? Blogs
and the traditional press: Adversaries or allies? Is there life after
print? The effects of the Internet on newspapers’ business plan.
“Advertising on the Web,” and streaming video and audio
on the Internet.
•
Social and cultural activities, which include a guided tour of the National
Museum of Anthropology of Mexico; a welcoming reception at Chapultepec
Castle; a reception and banquet at the Minería Palace in the
Historic District; a Bohemian evening with performances by Armando Manzanero
and Francisco Céspedes; a luncheon at the Hacienda de Los Morales,
and the closing ceremony at the Palace of Fine Arts.
• Hotel and travel: Enclosed are the meeting registration and
hotel reservations forms and we would remind you that reservations will
be guaranteed only if the form is received by the hotel by August 15.
It is important to remember that delegates attending for the first time
have a special registration fee of $500 per person, which includes a
one-year membership in the IAPA. We will be grateful if you would please
send in the forms as soon as possible, and if you would like to register
online, go to our Web site www.sipiapa.org. We have reached an agreement
with Mexicana de Aviación for it to be the official airline of
the General Assembly, offering very special fares.
Please
contact your local travel agent or Mexicana de Aviación directly,
quoting the IAPA code EMEX00JT. Please confirm with the Mexican consulate
in your country whether you require a visa before you travel to Mexico
City.
In
late September and early October it is fall weather, with daytime temperatures
of around 72ºF and at night 52ºF. Business attire (jacket
and tie for men and corresponding dress for women) is recommended for
the assembly sessions.
We
look forward to receiving your registration shortly. Mexico 2006 is
certainly shaping up to be a General Assembly that will make history
in the IAPA.
See
you in Mexico City!
Sincerely,

Julio E. Muñoz, Ph.D.
Executive Director
