WHEREAS
our Host Committee, chaired by José Santiago Healy Loera of El Imparcial, and formed by Juan Francisco Ealy Ortiz of El Universal, Andrés García, Novedades de Quintana Roo, Andrés García Lavín, Novedades de Mérida, Juan Fernando Healy Loera, El Imparcial, Gonzalo Leaño Reyes, Ocho Columnas, Luis Enrique Mercado, El Economista, Rómulo O´Farril, Novedades Editores, and Alberto Salinas, El Diario de Coahuila, provided a hospitable and friendly environment conducive to professional and social activities

WHEREAS

The President of Mexico, Vicente Fox Quesada, and the First Lady, Martha Sahagún, accepted the invitation of the Inter American Press Association to address the members and their guests

WHEREAS
Nobel Prize-winning author Gabriel García Márquez attended the meeting as a special guest and participated in an interesting narrative of journalistic experience

WHEREAS
prominent experts on communications gave important seminars, such as José Luis Figueroa (“Trends in Information Technologies”); Ignacio Icaza (“How Technology Will Impact Readers: The Smart Newspaper and Digital Journalism”); Oscar Romero (“The Digital Era in the Media”); Enrique Haro, Javier Gómez Tagle Rangel (“Vision of Competitive Mexico”); Gabriela Vargas gave a talk on “The Secrets of Communication”

WHEREAS
a number of important people participated on interesting panels, such as Luis Enrique Mercado, Jorge Ramos and Ricardo Rocha (“Challenges for Journalism in the Hemisphere”), Edward Seaton, Danilo Arbilla, Claudio Grossman, Sergio Muñoz (“Ten Years Since the Declaration of Chapultepec”), Luis Gabriel Cano, Bartolomé Mitre, Jaime Abello, Jack Fuller (“Training and Quality of Journalists”); Alejo Miró Quesada, Roberto Rock, María Marván Laborde and Juan Francisco Escobedo (“Transparency and Access to Information and Mexico”)
