APPRECIATION

WHEREAS
our Host Committee, chaired by Juan Luis Correa of La Prensa, with the collaboration of Gilberto Arias of EPASA, Mónica Saget of Mundo Social, Vanessa Calviño of El Siglo, Simón Bolívar Alemán of La Estrella de Panamá, and Fernando Ruiz of ACAN Efe, provided a hospitable and friendly environment conducive to professional and social activities

WHEREAS
the Midyear Meeting received the generous support of the following organizations, which sponsored hospitality events, offered services and provided useful and informative material:

WHEREAS
President Martín Torrijos of Panama and First Lady Vivian de Torrijos received the delegates in the Presidential Palace

WHEREAS
the presidents of Panama and Colombia, Martín Torrijos and Álvaro Uribe, respectively, accepted the invitation of the Inter American Press Association to address the members and their guests

WHEREAS
a number of prominent people gave important seminars, such as Earl J. Wilkinson (“Trends in Tabloid Newspapers Around the World”), José Ignacio Palacios and Miguel Ángel Gómez (“¿Will We All Be Tabloids?”), and Wendy Tribaldos (“The Newspaper at the Service of Education: How to Raise Brand Recognition”)

WHEREAS
individuals of note offered special presentations, such as Stanley Heckadon-Moreno (“Panamá: The Land and Its People”), Mariana Mould de Pease (“Machu Picchu, Inca Heritage and Peru Today”), moderated by Victoria Cox

WHEREAS
a number of important figures participated on interesting panels, such as Santiago Cantón, Armando González and Pedro Nikken (“Latest Advances in Case Law on Press Freedom”), moderated by Rafael Molina; and Sreenath Sreenivasan, Guillermo Pérez and Guillermo Franco (“Successful Electronic Media in Latin America and How They Do It”), moderated by Jaime Mantilla

WHEREAS
Arthur O. Sulzberger, Jr., chairman and publisher of The New York Times, atended the meeting as a special guest and spoke about his rich experience as a journalist

WHEREAS
the IAPA staff has done excellent work, enabling the activities of this meeting to progress in an efficient manner

WHEREAS
the Midyear Meeting was a resounding success in every way
