WHEREAS

the former mayor of Ayote, Eugenio Hernández, the murderer of journalist María José Bravo, was sentenced to 25 years in jail on January 28, 2005 by the criminal judge of Juigalpa, Rosa Inés Osorno

WHEREAS

the government and the police collaborated efficiently in the apprehension of the suspect and later in the investigation and trial of Hernández

WHEREAS

the criminal judge of Juigalpa rejected the idea that the charge against Hernández be simple homicide, as the prosecutor alleged, and accepted the charge of murder introduced by the lawyer of La Prensa and the family of María José Bravo

WHEREAS

Nicaraguan journalists' organizations, human rights groups and others united to conduct activities, public cultural events and other types of peaceful protest to demand justice

THE MIDYEAR MEETING OF THE IAPA RESOLVES

to express its approval to Nicaraguan judicial authorities for having solved the murder of María José Bravo, quickly as is required in Article 4 of the Declaration of Chapultepec.
