GUATEMALA
Resolution of the 62nd General Assembly

WHEREAS
several attempts to intimidate independent journalists have been reported in recent months, such as the attack on Vinicio Aguilar, and this represents a setback for freedom of speech

WHEREAS
none of the complaints of threats or harassment against journalists have been effectively investigated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office

THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE IAPA RESOLVES

to demand that the administration of President Óscar Berger Perdomo, and in particular the Ministry of the Interior and the Public Prosecutor’s Office, conduct the proper investigations to identify those responsible and bring them to justice, so that these attacks are no longer allowed to go unpunished.
