Resolution of the 62nd General Assembly
Mexico City, Mexico
September 29 – October 3, 2006
WHEREAS
several attempts to intimidate independent journalists have been reported in
recent months, such as the attack on Vinicio Aguilar, and this represents a
setback for freedom of speech
WHEREAS
none of the complaints of threats or harassment against journalists have been
effectively investigated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
THE IAPA RESOLVES
to demand that the administration
of President Óscar Berger Perdomo, and in particular the Ministry of
the Interior and the Public Prosecutor’s Office, conduct the proper investigations
to identify those responsible and bring them to justice, so that these attacks
are no longer allowed to go unpunished.
