Resolution of the 62nd General Assembly
Mexico City, Mexico
September 29 – October 3, 2006


WHEREAS
in recent years the IAPA has expressed its concern over a disturbing trend in U.S. anti-terror policies that limit and, at times, violate well established press freedoms

WHEREAS
new cases of attacks on press freedom related to U.S. anti-terror policies, continue to occur

WHEREAS
the IAPA strongly believes in the right of journalists to inform the public and to protect their confidential sources

WHEREAS
principle 5 of the Declaration of Chapultepec states that “prior censorship, restrictions on the circulation of the media or dissemination of their reports, forced publication of information, the imposition of obstacles to the free flow of news, and restrictions on the activities and movements of journalists directly contradict freedom of the press”


THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE IAPA RESOLVES

to reiterate its concern over the detention without charge of journalists in Iraq.
