|Colombian journalist awarded The Wall Street Journal/IAPA scholarship|
MIAMI, Florida (June 13, 2012)—The Board of Governors of the Inter American Press Association (IAPA) Scholarship Fund today announced that Colombian journalist Rebeca Lucia Galindo has been awarded a scholarship funded by the Dow Jones Foundation for postgraduate studies in the United States. Dow Jones is the publisher of The Wall Street Journal.
Each year the IAPA offers scholarships to news men and women from Latin America, the Caribbean and North America for postgraduate study consisting of a stipend and airfare from his or her country of origin. The scholarships are funded by voluntary contributions from IAPA member newspapers or independent donors.
In addition to the recipient of The Wall Street Journal/IAPA scholarship one month ago the IAPA also had announced the names of three other journalists to receive scholarships – Alejandro Fernández Sanabria of San José, Costa Rica; Luis Alberto Velarde Vargas of La Paz, Bolivia, and Raegen Michelle Rogers of Midland, Texas.
The IAPA Scholarship Fund, established in 1954, offers young journalists the opportunity to conduct postgraduate studies outside their country of origin for one year, thus contributing to a better mutual understanding among the countries of the Americas.
